Soil Testing

Soil tests through A&L Great Lakes Laboratories designed for lawn, garden, food plot, and agricultural applications are available at AMCD. Staff provide guidance to local landowners on soil sample collection, test selection, test result interpretation, and soil amendment recommendations.

Soil testing benefits you and our environment

If you want to enhance the growth of your garden, lawn, or food plot this year, soil testing could be the answer. The results of these tests provide you with valuable information that helps you choose the right type of soil amendment and apply it in the right amount. By applying soil amendments with precision, you optimize plant growth while reducing the cost of fertilizers and preventing excess fertilizer from entering our groundwater, streams, and lakes.

How to submit a soil sample for testing

Fall is the ideal time to test soil, but samples may be taken at any time during the year when the soil is not frozen. Pick up a soil test bag(s) and fill out a form at the office. Collect your soil sample, label the bag(s) with your name and field information, add your soil to the soil test bag(s), and bring them back into our office. Alternatively, bring a labeled zip lock bag(s) with at least a cup of soil to transfer into a soil test bag at the office. A general Soil Analysis Test is $20, A Basic Lawn & Garden Soil Test is $25, and a Complete Lawn & Garden test is $35. Our staff can assist you in selecting the soil test type that best suits your goals. Typically, you will receive the soil test results by email within 10 days.
